The NYC Department of Education wanted a one-stop solution where NYC educators can find professional development and instructional resources and interact in peer communities.

The Goal

The NYCDOE wanted to connect over 80,000 teachers and principals with high quality professional development and instructional resources.

Our Solution

We built the new Django-powered with a focus on user adoption, and helped the NYCDOE make over 1,000 educational resources open to the public. To address their administrative needs, we implemented SSO authentication, integrated with a 3rd-party LMS, and built administrable access rights for the entire department.

  • – Content Strategy
  • – Strategic Discovery
  • – User Experience Design
  • – Visual Design
  • – Django Development

We began with an intensive discovery to understand the NYCDOE’s needs and audit the landscape of existing LMSs.

A New Start

Their new Django website was custom-built for their users and content, with a 3rd-party LMS plugged in for course management. This let their team customize the core experience without committing to just one vendor.

Open Knowledge

The website’s central repository of resources is now open and educators can easily find what they are looking for by entering keywords in the website’s search bar and using filters to refine results.

Design for Data

A clean layout shines with flat design to make dense content easy to read.

We designed a customized logo and worked with the NYCDOE to design the look and feel of the website.

Behind the Scenes

We also built robust user management, integrating with the NYCDOE’s SSO, and baking in custom permissions.

“We removed the technical barriers, and focused on getting the right people to the right content. ”

Today, the NYCDOE and Blenderbox continue as partners to enact our long product roadmap, rolling out monthly updates that will result in further buildouts and refinement to the website.
